Hip pain

Hip pain quickly limits the things you enjoy: running, cycling or being on your feet all day. We treat osteoarthritis, bursitis, groin pain and post-operative recovery with an active programme aimed at your daily and sporting goals.

Hip pain treatment at Movement Based Therapy

Which hip conditions exist in general?

To keep things simple, below is a broad overview of the hip conditions you may come across.

  • Hip osteoarthritis
  • Hip (micro) instability
  • Torn labrum
  • Torn capsule
  • Hip impingement or FAI (CAM, Pincer)
  • Muscle injury in the hip region
  • Fractures

As you can see, many different conditions can develop around the hip region. In most cases, hip pain responds well to mobilisation exercises combined with strength training and education. In severe cases the damage is significant and surgery is indicated. That is why it is important to be well informed about the programme you may need to follow.

Our approach to hip pain

Our approach

At Movement Based Therapy, as the name suggests, we are specialised in movement. Our treatment methods always have the same starting point: getting someone pain-free through exercise.

The treatment plan is always tailored to your needs and goals. We work towards autonomy: during the programme we also share knowledge. That way, if symptoms ever return, you know what to do yourself to prevent them from getting worse.

Collaboration with the sports physicians at OLVG West

Our clinic has a working partnership with the sports physicians at OLVG West. Within this collaboration, the specialists trust the quality of our rehabilitation programmes. Conversely, we have great confidence in the diagnostics by the sports physicians.

When needed, we can often arrange a quick appointment with one of the specialists at the hospital. That gives us access to high-quality diagnostics fast.

OUR METHOD

Our unique method

Repeat.
01 / PHASE 1

Discover

Every treatment starts with a thorough intake. This gives us a complete picture of your physical health, movement patterns and mental well-being. We take a holistic approach and look beyond physical symptoms alone. Think sleep habits, nutrition, hydration, movement and daily stress factors.

03 / PHASE 3

Recreate

We work through a tailored programme that targets weaknesses in the body. Movement is at the centre of our treatment method. With specific exercises tuned to you, we build your body's capacity to handle load and help you develop sustainable movement habits. This reduces the chance of recurring symptoms.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need a GP referral for hip pain?

No, physiotherapy is directly accessible in the Netherlands. You can book an appointment without a referral. During your intake we carry out the screening and set up the treatment plan.

Which hip conditions do you treat?

We treat the full spectrum: from osteoarthritis and FAI to labral tears, bursitis, groin pain, muscle injuries around the hip and post-operative recovery after hip replacement or arthroscopy.

What is the difference between hip osteoarthritis and FAI?

Osteoarthritis is wear of the cartilage in the joint, often later in life or after overloading. FAI (femoroacetabular impingement) is a mechanical conflict between the femoral head and the socket, and we see it more often in active athletes. Each requires a different progression in the programme.

Do you work with a sports physician or orthopaedic surgeon?

Yes, we have a working partnership with the sports physicians at OLVG West. For unclear or severe symptoms we can arrange diagnostics and multidisciplinary collaboration quickly.

How many treatments will I need?

That depends on the nature of the condition. At the end of your intake we give you a realistic estimate of the treatment programme, so you know what to expect.

Can I rehabilitate with you after hip surgery?

Yes, we guide post-operative recovery after hip replacement, arthroscopy and labral repair. We work with objective criteria for building load, strength and sport-specific demands.

I've been helped tremendously by multiple members of the team for various issues over the course of about a year now. Not all team members have been my PT, but I have met them all and they are all great.
