Sports Physiotherapy

Sports physiotherapy for recreational and competitive athletes who want more than just to be free of pain — they want to come back stronger than before the injury. Our approach combines rehabilitation with strength training, sport-specific testing and clear return-to-sport criteria.

Why MBT for prevention and rehabilitation

We have worked with athletes at the highest level, and what have we learned from this? That everyone deserves to be treated like a top athlete, with the same expertise and attention.

We see it as our challenge to bring every athlete who walks in back to their level with enjoyment. With a holistic physiotherapy approach we look for the cause of the issue. No treating symptoms alone.

Pain from compensation

Pain often arises from a compensation mechanism. Compensation occurs when the body is out of balance, both physically and mentally. The result: pain, which only causes the compensation to grow.

Through thorough examination we map where the 'missing link' is in your body and work together on your recovery. The goal: getting you back to a higher level than before your injury.

If we cannot resolve things ourselves, we have close contact with the sports physicians of the Sportartsengroep at the OLVG hospital. Direct contact with the sports physician means we can act quickly and refer when needed.

WHY MBT

What sets us apart.

01

Our own method

We work according to our four-phase method: Discover, Educate, Recreate, Evaluate.

02

Clear plan upfront

At the end of your intake you know where you stand. An estimate of the programme and a plan ready to go.

03

Criteria-based rehabilitation

Objective measurements using professional testing equipment. Strength, mobility and capacity to handle load are mapped out, so progress becomes measurable.

04

Return-to-sport focus

Sport-specific tests and clear criteria. Not 'pain-free' as the endpoint, but back to your previous sports level or stronger.

05

Close link with sports physicians

Close contact with the Sportartsengroep at the OLVG hospital. Referring or consulting can always happen quickly when needed.

OUR METHOD

Our unique method

Repeat.
01 / PHASE 1

Discover

Every treatment starts with a thorough intake. This gives us a complete picture of your physical health, movement patterns and mental well-being. We take a holistic approach and look beyond physical symptoms alone. Think sleep habits, nutrition, hydration, movement and daily stress factors.

02 / PHASE 2

Educate

Understanding your condition is the key to lasting recovery. We make sure you understand where your symptoms come from and how to manage them. This helps you recognise your body's signals and prevent future issues.

03 / PHASE 3

Recreate

We work through a tailored programme that targets weaknesses in the body. Movement is at the centre of our treatment method. With specific exercises tuned to you, we build your body's capacity to handle load and help you develop sustainable movement habits. This reduces the chance of recurring symptoms.

04 / PHASE 4

Evaluate

Evaluation is an essential part of our approach. We monitor your progress regularly and adjust the treatment plan when needed. This keeps the therapy aligned with your goals and needs at every stage of the process.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between physiotherapy and sports physiotherapy?

Regular physiotherapy focuses on restoring function. Sports physiotherapy goes further and uses sport-specific testing, strength training and clear return-to-sport criteria to bring you back to — or above — your previous level.

Do I need a GP referral?

No, sports physiotherapy is directly accessible in the Netherlands. You can book an appointment without a referral. We carry out the screening during your intake.

How long does recovery from a sports injury take?

That depends on the injury and your goals. At the end of your intake we give you a realistic estimate of the programme and the return-to-sport timeline, so you know what to expect.

Do you also treat elite athletes?

Yes. We have worked with athletes at the highest level in athletics, speed skating, hockey, rugby, football, CrossFit and cycling, among others. Everyone receives the same expertise and attention at our clinic.

Do you work with sports physicians?

Yes, we have close contact with the Sportartsengroep at the OLVG hospital. When a referral or medical consultation is needed, we can act quickly.

Is sports physiotherapy covered by health insurance?

In 2026 we have contracts with several health insurers. Through your supplementary health insurance you are covered for a number of treatments, depending on your policy. Always check with your own insurer.

I've been helped tremendously by multiple members of the team for various issues over the course of about a year now. Not all team members have been my PT, but I have met them all and they are all great.
